I always thought Android's default contact manager did its job pretty well, especially if you happen to be a Google+ user. Recently, though, Lifehacker profiled Contacts+, a contact manager and then some.
I'll let Lifehacker do most of the talking here, because they sum up the app's advantages very well, and included a good video walkthrough of its features. I will say that if you've been using the old hacker method of exporting your Facebook contacts into Yahoo! then importing then into your phone or Google Contacts, then your day is about to be made.

Keep in mind, too, that the app has updated since Alan Henry wrote that profile, adding things like a superb black theme and hi-res photo syncing.
